Second largest is the Manufacturing sector with 18.2%, and the third largest is Government at 15.0% of regional employment. The sectors with the lowest employment are Information (0.7%) and Natural Resources and Mining (0.4%).
The Three Rivers Region has had a strong economic recovery since the pandemic. In fact, by September 2021, unemployment reached pre-pandemic levels of below 3.6% and, as of April 2025, has only peaked above that in three months since. Amid the pandemic, the monthly unemployment rate in the region peaked at 13.2%, about one percentage point lower than the national rate. Throughout the last five years, the region has seen unemployment rates mostly like the U.S. although slightly lower. The current unemployment rate is about 3.0% in April of 2025.
The median household income in the Three Rivers Region has grown every year for the past five years except for 2021 where it remained constant. In 2023, the median income grew 4.6%, which is less than the year before, but better than growth at the national level. In 2022 and 2023 the growth rate followed the same trend as the national growth rate and has been slightly higher over the last five years, with the exception of 2021.
